Well, our sports seasons are finished for the year. There were some ups and downs, some highs and lows. Hopefully, students and coaches came a way from their teams with growth in skills, a closer relationship with God, strength in friendships, peace in dealing with conflicts, and an overall positive vibe from their sporting experience.
I would like to take this time to once again thank our Coaches. They put so much time, thought, energy, and effort into leading a team. From planning practices, deciding who will play what and when and where, getting to know their athletes, logistics of travel, paying attention to the physical and mental and spiritual well-being of their team, figuring out how to improve skills, technique and strategy, trying to get people to work together, finding a balance between team dedication, school work, outside work, family life and social life, and also having fun while doing it all. It is such a big job and I'm sure I missed aspects of it in the list above. As a school we are so thankful to ALL our coaches for their efforts. I encourage everyone who was involved on a team to express their thanks to their coaches, assistant coaches, and other helpers.
Also, I would like to thank the families of the coaches. It is not always easy to have a spouse/partner/parent who is a coach as they are often gone from home, mentally lost in thought, or busy planning and preparing. Thank you so much for allowing your significant other to coach our athletes.
Thank you to those family members who supported their teams with willingness to drive and chaperone, for coming out to cheer the teams on, and positive encouragement.
And to take an image from the Helping Hands website... it truly does "take a village"...
Have a good summer everyone! Best wishes for those students who are graduating and moving on from CCHS!

OFSAA...
This past week was OFSAA for Track and Field.... that means the top athletes of all schools across all of Ontario meet to compete. This is not just Single A schools but all schools. CCHS had 2 athletes participate in this event which was held in Windsor. Adeleene Thompson made her first OFSAA appearance this year in Junior High Jump. She was in a 3-way tie for 17th place. Way to go, Adeleene! Well done!
Carolyn Prins returned to OFSAA for a second year and participated in Long jump and Triple jump. In Long jump she was 9th (out of 24). In Triple jump she came in 1st place with her 11.92 m jump. Not only did she have a personal best jump (by about 30 cm's) but she was 5 cm's short of the OFSAA record!
Now I want you to take a moment and actually visualize this... 11.92 meters... to do a hop, step and jump. I've been told that in Triple jump each portion should be about a third of your jump. I know that I have long legs but I cannot even imagine doing a "step" that is almost 4 meters... let alone adding in a hop and a jump!! Today we took a photo of Carolyn and her fellow students to show how long it really is. 28 people sitting side-by-each!

Congratulations to our Track team members who competed at the OFSAA Regionals meet. It was some tough competition in Cambridge last Friday and Saturday. Athletes had to finish in the top 4 to qualify for the OFSAA Championships in Windsor.
Amy Koomans competed in the Senior Girls' High Jump. She finished just a little out of the top 4 but her season best has her tied for a senior girls' top 10 jump in the entire province. Great season Amy!
Adeleene Thompson also was in high jump for the junior girls. She had a personal best jump of 1.5m and placed 2nd! She is OFSAA bound!
Carolyn Prins had a superb day in the Triple jump and the Long jump. She had a huge personal best Triple jump of 11.60m to blow away the competition and had a big season best 5.35m in the Long jump to come in 2nd to last year's OFSAA champ. Way to go girls!
OFSAA for Track is in Windsor this week on Thursday-Saturday.

Amy
Koomans jumped her personal best of 1.60 m high jump - 1st place and qualifying
for Regionals. She jumped consistently in triple jump but did not quite have
enough to move on for next round. She finished 6th in long jump with a season
best jump of 4.98, but not quite enough to qualify for Regionals (top 5
qualify).
Carolyn Prins jumped 1st in triple with a
personal best breaking 11 metres and placed 2nd in long jump also qualifying
for Regionals.
Daniel Burggraaf threw a
personal best in javelin breaking 33 metres and was a strong and consistent
competitor finishing just shy of qualifying for the next round. He also
maintained his ranking in discus against some tough competition.
Great job Flames! Thanks to
the coaches. Regionals take place this Friday and Saturday in Cambridge.

SWOSSAA is this week on Wednesday in Chatham and on Thursday in Windsor.
The Boys' Soccer Season has come to an end. They travelled to Oakville on Friday/Saturday for the Christian Schools Tournament. They played hard and faced some very tough competition. They were quite pleased to pull off a win against PRC. Friday was a great day for playing... Saturday was wet and cold! Coach Steve Kloostra had many words of praise for the team. Thanks to Coach Steve and Josh Norg for your efforts with the team this year!
Guys... get your uniforms in to Mrs. Smith please... there's a competition for you guys to hand it all in before the girls' team does!!
The Girls' Soccer Season has also come to an end. They travelled to Redeemer College University to play in the Christian Schools Tournament. They also played hard and faced some very tough competition especially considering a number of our players had never played soccer before. The team was very excited to have scored not only their first goal of the season but their second goal as well! Thank you so much to Coaches Karen Koomans and Brian Roffel for their efforts with the team! It sounds like the weekend was a lot of fun!
