SWOSSAA Finals!

Hopefully you've been following the updates on the School's Facebook page because we have been having a whirlwind of games happening with all 3 teams making it to the Kent Finals. Junior Boys' Volleyball played their Kent Finals in Blenheim on Friday afternoon. They took it to 4 games but lost to the Bobcats in the 4th. Great season boys and many thanks to Coaches Ben Nydam and Mark Wiersma, both CCHS alumni's!

The Senior Boys' Volleyball team won their Kent Finals in a thrilling home match against Tilbury.  Coach Richard Koomans was "battling it out" against cousin, Jenny Roffel, coach of the Tilbury Titans. They took it to 5 games but CCHS held on to the lead. Last night the team travelled to Sarnia's SFX to play in the SWOSSAA Semi-Finals. The team won in 4 games. Which means they travel to Harrow on Thursday (tomorrow) to play in the SWOSSAA Finals!

The Girls' Basketball team (made of both juniors and seniors but playing in the Senior league) played at St. Clair College against the strong Ridgetown team in their Kent Finals this past Saturday evening. The Flames came out strong and continued through out the game and won! How exciting for the team. They will now play in their SWOSSAA Finals tonight (Wednesday) at 5:30 pm at CCHS against Lajeunesse. Come on out and support them!!

It's been a very fun week of sporting events and so wonderful for the different teams to feel the support of our school community. Come on out and show your support too!!!

Our Senior Boys’ Volleyball team travelled to Bowmanville to participate in the Christian Schools Volleyball tournament. This is a tough tournament with 18 strong teams from across Ontario. Good job guys and coaches Richard Koomans and Dale Lahey!

Our Girls’ Basketball team was also on the road for the Christian Schools Basketball tournament in the Hamilton area. On Friday they won their first two games quite strongly against UMEI and Rehoboth.  Then they faced London. According to parents, it was a nail bitter game that could’ve gone either way but in the end our girls lost 44-38. This placed them in the Flight A Consolation Round where they won against Heritage 35-32 and then beat Toronto 40-16 for the Flight A Consolation Championships. Way to go girls and coaches Ron Berlemont and Poul Christensen!

Athletics at CCHS -- A Summary

Here is a summary especially for those of you new to athletics at CCHS. We participate in local leagues which is governed by KCSSAA (Kent County Secondary School Athletic Association) as well as OCSSAA (Ontario Christian Secondary Schools Athletic Association).

Schools in Ontario are classified by the number of students enrolled by the end of October each year.  This is set up by OFSAA (Ontario Federation of Student Athletic Association). The divisions are:
A -- 1 - 500 students
AA -- 501- 900 students
AAA -- 901 - 1250 students
AAAA -- 1251+ students

Locally, we have 6 schools that are classified A:
CCHS (us)
BDHS -- Blenheim
TDHS -- Tilbury
ESPC -- Pain Court
RDHS -- Ridgetown
LKCS -- Dresden

John McGregor and Wallaceburg are a AA schools.  CKSS is a AAA school.  UCC (Pines) is a AAAA school.

Some sports have all the schools together in league play and meets such as soccer, badminton, golf, cross country and track-n-field. In other sports the league play is separated and our school plays against only Single A schools such as basketball and volleyball. Although, often at tournaments you will find a range of school classifications playing.

In the local league, the team that wins Kent Finals goes on to play in SWOSSAA (South West Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association) Semi-finals which is against the first place school in Sarnia. The winner of this round continues on to SWOSSAA Finals which is the winner of Windsor-Essex. In senior grades, the winner then qualifies for OFSAA (all Ontario) but for juniors that is as far as they can go.

OCSSAA is the Christian School organization. For each of the teams there is typically one tournament a year to attend at the Senior level in various locations across Ontario.

Junior Boys' Volleyball hosted tournament this past Saturday.

The Junior Boys' volleyball team hosted a tournament at home this past Saturday. They had some tough competition including Blenheim, Pain Court, Pines midgets, CKSS midgets, and Lambton-Kent. Our boys took a win off ESPC and played some exciting games against the CK midgets winning the split with their scores being 26-27 and 25-23. But then they started to have some difficulty. The small team struggled with having a player injured and another player having to leave early. The played hard and learned a lot.
In the end Blenheim won in an exciting finals against Lambton Kent. With scores going to 33-31 in the first game. CK and UCC played for Consolation Finals and they pushed it to a 3rd game with CK winning 18-16 in the third game. Very close exciting games in both finals.

Our boys played really well in league play last week. They won against Lambton-Kent with scores 25-23 and 26-24. They split with Blenheim 13-25 and 25-21. They also played exhibition games against Tilbury and lost 25-19 and 25-21. So their current record in the league is 3 wins and 1 loss.
