The Girls' Basketball team travelled to Wallaceburg to play in a two-day tournament. On Friday they won one game and lost one. On Saturday they played the formidable team of CKSS and lost by 3 points in a nail bitter.

The Senior Boys' Volleyball team had a very successful tournament at home. They ended up the tournament champs by winning against Sarnia Northern, a AAA school, in 3 tough games. Some parents may have a little more gray hair after watching these games. So fun to see the team improve over the years. Good work, Coaches Richard Koomans and Dale Lahey!

Athletics at CCHS -- A Summary

Here is a summary especially for those of you new to athletics at CCHS. We participate in local leagues which is governed by KCSSAA (Kent County Secondary School Athletic Association) as well as OCSSAA (Ontario Christian Secondary Schools Athletic Association).

Schools in Ontario are classified by the number of students enrolled by the end of October each year.  This is set up by OFSAA (Ontario Federation of Student Athletic Association). The divisions are:
A -- 1 - 500 students
AA -- 501- 900 students
AAA -- 901 - 1250 students
AAAA -- 1251+ students

Locally, we have 6 schools that are classified A:
CCHS (us)
BDHS -- Blenheim
TDHS -- Tilbury
ESPC -- Pain Court
RDHS -- Ridgetown
LKCS -- Dresden

John McGregor and Wallaceburg are a AA schools.  CKSS is a AAA school.  UCC (Pines) is a AAAA school.

Some sports have all the schools together in league play and meets such as soccer, badminton, golf, cross country and track-n-field. In other sports the league play is separated and our school plays against only Single A schools such as basketball and volleyball. Although, often at tournaments you will find a range of school classifications playing.

In the local league, the team that wins Kent Finals goes on to play in SWOSSAA (South West Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association) Semi-finals which is against the first place school in Sarnia. The winner of this round continues on to SWOSSAA Finals which is the winner of Windsor-Essex. In senior grades, the winner then qualifies for OFSAA (all Ontario) but for juniors that is as far as they can go.

OCSSAA is the Christian School organization. For each of the teams there is typically one tournament a year to attend at the Senior level in various locations across Ontario.
