This Week at a Glance... April 28, 2014

Badminton has finished for the year. A nice finish for Jarrod Kloostra who represented CCHS, along with Bryce and Victoria Koomans, at SWOSSA. Jarrod finished in 5th place and was the “last Kent player left standing”. The seniors who went to SWOSSA were Alyson Bierling, Cameron Koomans, Peter Sung, Sam DeBoer, and Laura Wiersma.
Then on the weekend part pf the team travelled to Brock University to play in the Christian Schools Tournament. Jarrod Kloostra played well and was on target to make it to the playoffs but suffered from an injury. Cameron Koomans and Peter Sung were points away from making it to the playoffs while Alyson Bierling in Girls’ Singles and Samantha DeBoer and Laura Wiersma (Girls’ Doubles) went to the finals.  Both of these teams ended up in second place. In total the CCHS team came in 4th place in the Seniors’ Division out of 19 teams.  This is the best finish CCHS has done ever!  Thank you to all the coaches for their time and effort with this jam-packed season: Dale Smith, Kevin Wolting, Brian Koomans, and Jonathan Mark.
Team, please wash your shirts and hand them in to Mrs. Smith sooner rather than later.

Boys’ Soccer:
Last week the team had their first game at home on Wednesday against ESPC. They lost 4-1 with Kaden VanHelden scoring the Flames goal.

Badminton is in its last week with SWOSSAA games being played this week and the Christian Schools Tournament on the weekend (April 25-26) at Brock University.
Top results of the Kent Finals last week were:
Alyson Bierling – 2nd in Girls’ Singles

They all went onto SWOSSAA this week.  Alyson made it into the 4th round winning two matches before her double elimination.  Laura and Samantha won one match and unfortunately Cam and Pete could not finish off their games with a win.  Excellent effort against some really tough competitors.  However, the team looks forward to the Christian Schools Tournament.

The Junior top finishers at Kent were:
Jarrod Kloostra – 2nd in Boys’ singles
Bryce Koomans and Victoria Koomans – 3rd in Mixed.
They will play SWOSSAA tomorrow (Thursday) at St. Clair College Healthplex.

Boys’ Soccer starts league play today (Wednesday) at 4 pm at our school vs. ESPC.  Practice Thursday and Monday at 3:30 and a second game on Tuesday April 29th at home vs. John McGregor.

Girls' Soccer:
There is enough interest for a girls' team to play in the Christian School's Tournament on May 9-10. So practices will start this week on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-5 pm with Coaches Brian and Jenny Roffel and Karen Koomans.

Track and Field:
First meet is on Tuesday the 22nd. Practices this week are Monday and Wednesday.

Thanks to all the coaches for all their efforts and willingness to coach their teams. It takes a lot of time and effort not only attending practices but also all the meets/games/tournaments. Not to mention all the extra work behind the scenes in getting prepared and getting their paperwork done. Most coaches take time off their own work and family life to help out and we thank you for all your efforts!!
