This Week at a Glance.... Monday, February 23, 2015

Last week the Senior Girls' Volleyball team won their Semifinal match in 4 games and prepared to host the Blenheim Bobcats for the LKSSAA Finals. This was the 3rd year in a row that CCHS and BDHS faced each other in the finals. The afternoon was not a disappointment in that there was a lot of exciting play. The Flames dropped the first 2 games but were able to rally around in the 3rd game, winning it and the 4th game as well. So it came down to the 5th and final game to 15. In the end the girls lost 15-12 but with a valiant effort! Some of my highlights were seeing Val step up and play like she's never played before. Way to go, Val ... way to cover like a pro. Laura deceived the Bobcats with her serve that they struggled to pass effectively. Sarah made a wall at the net seizing every overpass that came her way. Krissy played her all around consistent game as she has all season which is always important. Michelle's sets kept feeding the attackers with solid consistency. Amy's athleticism came out with the height of her blocks, the amount of court she covered in the back row, and her smart play. Abby's attacks were "on fire" both in the front and back row.  Kate made her presence known loud and clear and was able to pump up the audience. It was a fun evening in spite of the loss. Thanks to coaches Ingrid Lahey and Trish Sluys and Alex Sluys for their hours of dedication through out the season.

Spring Sports are up and coming...

Junior Badminton will be coached by Mr. Gareth Sharpe and they practice this week Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:30-5 pm.

Senior Badminton will be coached by Dale Smith and Brian Koomans and they will practice on Thursday from 5-6:30 this week.
As you can see this year junior and senior badminton will be separate mostly due to the changes in the LKSSAA set up.

Boys' Soccer will start gym practices on March 10th with coaches Roger Grootenboer and Steve Kloostra.

Track and Field will start gym practices on March 11th with coaches Patrick McNamara and Jessica Brooks.

Girls' Soccer will start after March break with coaches Brian Roffel and Karen Koomans.

This Week at a Glance (a little early) ... Friday, February 13, 2015

Hello everyone! I usually do an update on Mondays but next week is Family Day and Tuesday is a non school day as well... so I thought I better do it early!

Playoff week has come and gone for the Junior Girls' Volleyball and for the Boys' Basketball teams.

The Junior Girls played Quarter Finals in Tilbury but struggled with the pressures of playoffs. However, it was a great season with a great group of girls. They learned a lot and had a lot of fun doing it. Thanks to coaches Susan Dieleman and Michelle Weverink for helping me to coach these ladies!  Now just the Team party is left...

The Boys' Basketball team hosted the Quarter Finals against Ridgetown and won 45-39. Dan Grootenboer scored 16 and Kaden VanHelden 9. This brought them to the Semifinals against ESPC in Pain Court last night. It was a tough night in which the team was just not able to bring it all to the court. Many thanks to coaches Kevin Wolting and Steve Kloostra.

Meanwhile, the Senior Girls' Volleyball has yet to start their Playoffs. They will be hosting Semifinals on Wednesday, February 18th. Warm ups at 5:15 and game time at 5:45. They will be playing ESPC the best of 5 games. The winner will continue on to the Finals on Friday. The girls will be practicing on Tuesday (yes the non-school day) from 3:30-5:30 pm. Practice on Thursday from 5-6:30.
We encourage you all to come out to the games on Wednesday... cheer on the team at 5:45 pm!
GET YOUR PURPLE ON!!!!

Spring Sports are just around the corner.  Practices will be starting very soon... stay tuned for more details.

This Week at a Glance... Monday, February 9, 2015

Both the Girls and Boys teams had a good experience at the OCSSAA (Christian Schools) Tournaments on the weekend....

In pool play the Girls' Volleyball team did as follows:
Woodland 25-22; 14-25
Toronto 25-22; 25-21
Guido 16-25; 21-25
Providence 15-25; 9-25
Unity 22-25; 15-25

These results ranked them 4th overall going into the playoffs. They then went on to defeat: Hamilton, Emmanuel, London, and Woodland. This brought them to the Gold medal match against Toronto. They played really well in pool play against Toronto but in this final match up, unfortunately our girls were not able to bring it altogether. However the final result was: Silver Medals!  Great job ladies and coaches!

There is one item of concern in that one of our players hit her head on the floor at one point on Friday which resulted in a concussion. Please keep her in your prayers. We thank God for the safe return of the team as the roads were not good but with slow driving they made it safely.

The Boys' Basketball team were in the Hamilton area and in their games they defeated Emmanuel 49-19 and then UMEI 43-26. This brought them to the Quarter Finals in the B-Flight against Durham in which they won 49-32. Then facing Great Lakes in the Semi-Finals they lost 31-49. It sounds like they had a great weekend together as a team. Thanks to the coaches and chaperones!

The Junior Girls' Volleyball team were in a tournament on the weekend as well in Blenheim. They faced UCC Midgets (The Pines) and won both games. Then they played Wallaceburg and lost the first game 25-24 (such a close upset!) and lost the second game. Then they split against North Lambton 25-24 for both games. What a great day of some very fun volleyball with a great group of girls!

This upcoming week is the start of Play-offs! There are also a number of elementary basketball games this week so practices are later than normal.

Boys' Basketball will host Quarter Finals on Tuesday evening at 5:30 against Ridgetown.  The winner goes on to the Semi Finals on Thursday. Practices for the boys this week are: Monday 5-6:30 pm and Wednesday 6:30-7:50 pm.

Senior Girls' Volleyball has a bye for the Quarter Finals games this week and so has practices: Monday 6:30-7:50 pm; Tuesday 7-8:30 pm; Wednesday 5-6:30 pm; Thursday 7-8:30 pm. They will host Semi-Finals on Wednesday February 18th.

Junior Girls' Volleyball will travel to Tilbury to play in the Quarter Finals this week Wednesday (11th). Games start at 4:30 pm. Practices this week are: Monday 6:30-7:50 pm; Friday 3:30-5 pm.
