This Week at a Glance... Monday, Sept 8, 2014

We are underway...

Cross Country continues with practices on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday this week.  3:30-5pm. Also, first meet is on Thursday, Sept 11th in Delware (Belvoir X-Country Opener).

Girls' Basketball practices this week:
Monday and Wednesday 3:30-5 pm; Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 5-6:30 pm.

Boys' Volleyball -- unfortunately we did not have enough players to run a junior team. But there is room on the senior team. All boys in Grade 9 & 10 interested in volleyball are strongly encouraged to come out to the senior team. Please come to build your skills and have fun (not just to practices but games as well)!  Any questions please see Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Brooks or Mr. Richard Koomans.
Practices this week are: Monday and Wednesday 5-6:30 pm; Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 3:30-5 pm.

Golf -- the tournament date has been changed to Monday, September 22nd (not Friday).  It will be at The Links of Kent.  Mr. Scott Saunders will be coaching.

We are still looking for someone knowledgeable in Basketball and willing to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with a great group of guys.  Guys' high school basketball begins in November and we need a coach or two... please consider it or pass on any suggestions to Mrs. Sharon Smith.

Flameswear -- purple polos (golf shirts) and hoodies (purple, black, athletic grey) orders are being taken until this Friday. Forms available on Athletic Bulletin Board and on Mrs. Smith's door.  Yes, these are acceptable for in-class clothing.

Apparently, the Back-to-School run originally scheduled for Sept 13th has been cancelled.

Again, we are looking for a Jr. volleyball assistant coach and we are looking for Boys' Basketball coaches which will start in November.

We encourage all students interested in sports/activities to try out for the teams. It is a great way for students to get active, to get involved, and to learn teamwork. And it is a ton of fun!!

With the amalgamation of the Sarnia and Chatham Kent high school athletics there is a new website to follow regarding schedules and results, etc. Check out:  http://www.lkssaa.ca/

Flameswear -- do you want more colour in your wardrobe?  Purple polos and hoodies (purple, black or athletic grey) are available through Mrs. Smith. These are acceptable for in the classroom. Get your orders in by Friday, September 12th.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact Mrs. Sharon Smith at the school or at sharonsmith@chathamchristian.ca.

This Week at a Glance... June 9, 2014

All the sports have wrapped up for another year. Overall, it has been a very successful year. Thank you so much to all the coaches and assistants for giving of their time and energy to our students!! There would be no teams if it were not for you.
Thank you also to the parents and other supports for driving kids to/from practices, games and meets.  And thank you to those of you who came out to cheer on our students.
We thank God for a safe season and a time of growth and fun for our students. May each student carry on a healthy interest of sports and physical activities for many, many years.

Looking ahead to next year... we will be looking for some more coaches. Thankfully, many coaches plan on continuing, however, we can always use more help. We are looking for an assistant for girls' basketball, junior boys' volleyball, boys' basketball, and badminton. Please let us know if you are interested in helping out in these sports or in any other way.

Thank you and have a peaceful summer!

This Week at a Glance... June 2, 2014

Track and Field – Kyle Maerz, Krissy Brooks, Amy Koomans, and Ainsley McNamara had all gone on to OFSAA Regionals this past weekend.  While they did not qualify for OFSAA Finals, they all did well in their events.  Here is a link to all of Chatham-Kent’s results:   http://www.cksn.ca/2014/05/kent-to-be-well-represented-at-ofsaa-track-and-field/

It was a good season for the whole team.  Thank you to Coaches Patrick McNamara, Jessica Brooks and Don Thompson for their time and energy.  Also, a special nod to Coaches Derek Quigley of CKSS and Peter Cowan of UCC for helping out with our jumpers.

Uniforms from badminton, soccer, and track – please ensure that you hand in your team shirts sooner, rather than later.  Thank you!

Senior Boys' and Girls' Volleyball players for next season -- open gym on Tuesday, June 3 and Thursday, June 5 from 3:30-5pm.  All people interested please plan to attend or let Mrs. Smith know if you cannot make it but are interested.

Is anyone out there interested in sports and would like to share your knowledge with some great high school students next year?  We will be looking for coaches in volleyball, basketball, badminton, and soccer.  Connect with Sharon Smith for more information at sharonsmith@chathamchristian.ca or 519-352-4980.
